Question 1

How does the free mock-up work?

Accepted Answer

After we chat about your project, we create a custom website design mock-up for your business at no cost. You get to see exactly what your site will look like before deciding to proceed. No obligation, no pressure.

Question 2

How long does it take to build a website?

Accepted Answer

Most projects take 2-4 weeks from start to launch, depending on complexity. We'll give you a clear timeline during the discovery phase.

Question 3

Do you really not charge monthly fees?

Accepted Answer

There are no lock-in ongoing fees outside of website hosting and domain. Outside of that, you only ever pay for the work you actually ask us to do, billed at an affordable hourly rate.

Question 4

What do you need from me to get started?

Accepted Answer

We'll need your business information, any existing branding (logo, colours), content you'd like included, and examples of websites you like. Don't worry, we guide you through the whole process.

Question 5

Do you work with businesses outside Victoria?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We're based in Geelong but work with businesses across Australia. Everything is done remotely with clear communication throughout.

Question 6

Can you redesign my existing website?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can give your current site a complete overhaul, improving the design, performance, and SEO while keeping what works.

Question 7

Do I need to provide my own images and content?

Accepted Answer

We can work with whatever you have. If you've got photos and text ready, great. If not, we can help source stock images and write content that reflects your business. The goal is to make it easy for you, not harder.

Question 8

What's the difference between a single-page and multi-page website?

Accepted Answer

A single-page site puts everything on one page, visitors scroll through sections like services, about and contact. A multi-page site has separate pages for each, which is better for businesses with more content or specific SEO goals. We'll help you decide which is right for your business.

Question 9

Do you offer ongoing website management?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can manage everything for you on an ongoing basis at an affordable hourly rate, so you never pay a big monthly fee for work that isn't being done. Need a text change, new photos, a new page or a fix? Just get in touch and we take care of it for you, usually the same day. No software to learn, no hassle, and no risk of accidentally breaking your own site. Nothing is locked in either, so you can use us as much or as little as you like.

Question 10

What happens after my website goes live?

Accepted Answer

We don't disappear. Once your site is live we can keep managing everything for you at an affordable hourly rate. Need something updated? Send us a message and it's handled quickly, no ticketing systems and no waiting days. You only pay for the work you actually receive, and nothing is locked in. You'll also get guidance on getting the most out of your online presence going forward.

Question 11

Do I own my website once it's built?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once the project is complete and paid for, the website is yours. There are no lock-in contracts, no hidden fees, and no monthly charges. You own it outright.

Question 12

Can you help with SEO after the site is live?

Accepted Answer

Every site we build is SEO-optimised from day one, proper heading hierarchy, schema markup, fast loading, Google-friendly structure. If you want ongoing SEO work beyond that, we offer that as a separate service.

Question 13

Will my website work on mobile phones?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Every website we build is mobile-first, designed for phones first, then scaled up to tablets and desktops. Over half of web traffic is mobile, so it's not optional to us.

Question 14

How much does a website cost?

Accepted Answer

A single page website starts from $1,500. Beyond that, the price depends on how many pages you need and what each one has to do, so a multi-page site is quoted based on your requirements rather than a fixed price list. Every project is different, so we'll give you a firm quote once we understand your business. The first mock-up is free either way, so you can see the work before committing.

Question 15

Do you offer e-commerce websites?

Accepted Answer

We focus on business and service-based websites, sites that generate enquiries, showcase work and represent your brand professionally. If you need an online store, we can point you in the right direction or integrate simple e-commerce where appropriate.

Question 16

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Simple, give James a call on 0499 313 828, send an email to james@woodsmediapromotions.com.au, or fill out the form on the contact page. We'll have an initial chat, understand what you need, then create your free mock-up. No pressure, no obligation.

Question 17

Can you help my business rank in Geelong searches?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and local search is where most Geelong businesses win or lose work. When someone searches 'plumber Geelong' or 'carpenter near me', Google shows a map pack and a handful of local results before anything else. Our aim is to get you into those results for the services you actually offer. That means the right keywords for your trade and suburbs, location pages where they make sense, a properly set up Google Business Profile, and consistent business details across the web.

Question 18

What suburbs and regions do you optimise for?

Accepted Answer

Whatever your service area actually is. For Geelong businesses that usually means Geelong CBD and the surrounding suburbs, plus the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast. We also work with businesses in Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Colac and right across regional Victoria. The key is targeting where your customers are, not casting too wide a net and competing everywhere at once.

Question 19

How long does it take to see results from local SEO?

Accepted Answer

Local SEO moves faster than broad national SEO, but it's still not instant. Google Business Profile changes can show movement within a few weeks. Website ranking improvements for competitive Geelong keywords typically take a few months of consistent work. Anyone promising you page one in a week isn't being straight with you.

Question 20

Can you help me show up in AI search tools like ChatGPT?

Accepted Answer

Increasingly, this matters as much as Google. Tools like ChatGPT, Google's AI overviews and Perplexity are being used to find local businesses, and they pull from a different set of signals, clear structured content, schema markup, consistent business information and a well-established web presence. We build every site with this in mind, and it's an area we actively work on for clients.

Question 21

Do you only work with Geelong businesses?

Accepted Answer

No. We're based in Geelong and that's where most of our local SEO work is focused, but we build and optimise websites for businesses right across Australia. If you're outside Geelong, the same fundamentals apply, we just target your area instead. Everything is handled remotely with clear communication throughout.

Question 22

What is the best web design company in Geelong?

Accepted Answer

That depends on what you need, but here's what to look for. A local designer who will actually meet with you and answer the phone. Real examples of Geelong businesses they've built for, not a portfolio of stock images. A free mock-up so you can see the work before you commit. Chris at Absolute Bathroom Makeovers in Melbourne put it simply: we couldn't be happier with James and the work he's done. If you're comparing options, ask to see live sites they've built and speak to their clients directly.

Question 23

How much does a website cost in Geelong?

Accepted Answer

Roughly the same as anywhere else in Australia. A single page website starts from $1,500. The real answer depends on how many pages you need, whether you need branding, and how much content has to be written, so a multi-page site is quoted based on your requirements rather than a fixed price list. We don't do lock-in contracts or monthly fees, you pay for the build, then updates are billed hourly only when you need them. The first mock-up is free, so you can see the work before spending anything.

Question 24

Who builds websites for small businesses in Geelong?

Accepted Answer

We do, and it's most of what we do. Woods Media Promotions is owned and run by James Woods, based in Geelong. We've built websites for trades, handyman businesses, aged care organisations, joinery and cabinetry workshops, mechanics, earthworks companies, painters and service businesses across Geelong, the Bellarine and regional Victoria. Because it's a one-person operation, you deal directly with the person building your site from the first call to launch and beyond.

Question 25

Why should I choose a Geelong web designer instead of someone overseas?

Accepted Answer

Mostly because of accountability and understanding your market. A local designer knows how people in Geelong actually search, can meet you in person if you'd rather, and is in the same timezone when something needs fixing. Plenty of Geelong businesses get burned by cheap offshore builds that look fine but rank nowhere locally, then struggle to get anyone to make changes afterwards. That said, price matters, and we're competitive with what you'd pay for a decent overseas build, without the communication gap.

Question 26

Do I need a Geelong address to rank in Geelong searches?

Accepted Answer

No, but proximity is one of the factors Google uses, so it helps. If you're just outside Geelong or in a nearby town, you can still rank well for Geelong searches through the content on your site, your service areas, and a strong Google Business Profile. What matters far more is being consistent and specific, targeting the services you actually offer in the areas you actually cover, rather than trying to rank everywhere at once.

Question 27

Can you get my Geelong business into the Google map results?

Accepted Answer

That's the goal, and it's usually the fastest win for a local business. Google shows a map pack above the normal search results for most local searches, and getting into it comes down to a properly optimised Google Business Profile, consistent business details across the web, genuine reviews, and a website that backs up what the profile claims. We handle the profile setup and ongoing optimisation alongside the website, so the two work together instead of contradicting each other.

Question 28

Will my Geelong website rank if I don't do SEO?

Accepted Answer

Realistically, no. A well-built site gives you a foundation, but Google needs signals to understand what you do and where you do it. Without keyword targeting, proper page structure, location content and a functioning Google Business Profile, you're relying on people already knowing your business name. The good news is that the SEO foundations are built into every site we make, so you're not starting from zero the day it launches.
